- DM: Damage Model. These are the ##damage.dat files in your SIMPATCH folder
they determine how each plane will absorb damage.
- FM: Flight Model. Each plance has a set of numbers that Red Baron uses to regulate how that plane will fly in the game. All these sets are gathered into a single file named FMPARAMS3.DAT which is for the Authentic or Advanced mode. FMPARAMS2.DAT is for the Intermeadiate or Normal mode.
- Batch File: Under Windows is the true operating system, MS-DOS. In DOS there's a blank screen with a place to type in text commands-the command line. Batch files are a way of typing commands into a file once, and running them in sequence when you want. It's something like a program, more like a macro, and if you're really old, it's like JCL.
- Zip/UNZip If you want to mail someone some say, some sponges, you really don't won't to pack each sponge and send them off one by one right? And, if you can squeeze the sponges down, you can fit them all into a smaller package. Well, that's what PKZip does; it compresses the files you tell it to into a single file. That single file is smaller than all the separate files combined. So if you send someone a program you wrote, you know they got all of it, and didn't miss any parts. PKZip, by PKWare, Inc. is just one such program. There used to be so many you couldn't keep track of them. PAK, ARJ, ZAP, ARC, ARK, and on and on. PKZip was the one that survived the "Archiver Wars" which to most of you are like the "Clone Wars" were to Luke Skywalker. Another program is WinZip which can work with the file created by PKWare software.
